do you know the way to santa fe? RENT on Saturday was absolutely amazing.
The theater was packed and the energy was killer. Watching Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal (the original Mark and Roger) made me realize this is how the show must be seen. I had serious chills by the time Adam and Mark finished their final notes on the song "Rent".
Tamyra Gray rocked as Mimi, her vocals were spot on. She did seem a bit awkward during the acrobatic dance moves on the fire escape as Mimi, but I'll chalk that up to her being new in the role. I loved the way she sang "Light My Candle" and "No Day But Today". She had serious killer chemistry with Adam Pascal and the two of them seemed to take every chance they could get to touch and kiss one another.
I wasn't impressed with Collins, but he held his own during "I'll Cover You - Reprise", which is one of my favorite songs of the show.
I was hoarse at the end from all the clapping and screaming after every song.
The standing ovation at the end felt like it went on forever.
I wish I could of hung out at the cast door, but the crowd was huge and I'm almost 35. Plus, I had a train to catch. If I were alone, though? I would have been a total fangirl.
Coming home on the train, I kept breaking out in song making my sisters and Ash laugh like loons.
If you ever have a chance, definitely go see the play no matter who's in the starring roles. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to see if I can find a bootleg recording of the show.
